This material was presented by VSSEC at the 17th UN/IAF Workshop to demonstrate how it uses space science to engage students in the study of mathematics and science whilst raising their awareness of the use of space technology in Australia and how it benefits the broader community.

The educational resources presented are all used in VSSEC programs and were chosen for their relevance to the workshop theme, “Space Technology for Sustainable Development: Towards Food Security”. The material includes an overview of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), as well as activities that explore how space technology relates to food, including:

  • Astronaut nutrition
  • Space garden
  • Remote sensing
