In October 2007 we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik, the first manmade satellite to be launched into space. Sputnik didn’t carry any scientific instruments but it did transmit a constant beeping signal that was tracked around the world. To hear Sputnik’s beep download the audio file below.
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the launch of Sputnik, VSSEC is offering three activities for Primary School students:
Activity 1: Build Your Own Sputnik
Activity 2: Construct an Electric Circuit to Produce a Sputnik Beep
Activity 3: APRSAF Poster Design Competition
To support these activities we have provided:
- Teachers instructions
- Background information
- An introductory Power Point presentation
- Instructions for the three activities
- Sputnik audio file

These activities are supported by VSSEC, Engineers Australia National Committee for Space Engineering and the Victorian State Government. The Poster Design Competition is also supported by the Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum Space Education and Awareness Working Group. |
