2009 marks 400 years since the Italian scientist Galileo Galilei turned a telescope to the heavens. The International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009) is a global celebration which marks this event and celebrates astronomy and its contributions to society and culture. Australia has a rich history in astronomical research, and with the selection of the site for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) down to either Australia or South Africa, the future is also very bright.
The program will be conducted by CSIRO ATNF Education Officer, Robert Hollow, in conjunction with staff from VSSEC and the Melbourne Planetarium at Scienceworks.
