CAPCOM

In the early days of the space program, the ground-based team in Mission Control, who controlled communications with the astronaut’s capsule, were know as the capsule communicator, which was shortened to CAPCOM. The name stuck even after NASA replaced capsules with the Shuttle.

VSSEC’s Newsletter, CAPCOM, is issued monthly as an electronic newsletter and announces upcoming events and programs, as well as promoting resources for teachers and opportunities for anyone interested in science and space.
